Deleted all my tweets related to . Not worth the risk that Twitter might actually be leftist enough to ban someone over it (and searching online found what appears to be them doing just that).

If you want to continue the discussion here, please keep in mind the topic isn't "when or if you should spank" but "whether a parent who does spank should be put in jail and/or have their children kidnapped".

@lukedashjr

Short: No

Long: I have experienced this in my childhood since my dad was in air force and most of the people who are in defence here generally believe there is nothing wrong with it.

This affected me on lot of occasions. Not because I am leftist. I don't care about left or right. But few things could be avoided if you care about mental health of your kids.

I know everyone is different but most did not change anything because of spanking infact they learnt new ways to do it.

@prayank Not sure what you're saying.

Do you want to imprison or kidnap children from any parent who spanks?

@lukedashjr No. Thats why short answer was no. Long answer was to give some context and my opinion on this topic.

@lukedashjr imo it teaches children that violence is an appropriate response to frustration. It taught me this and took years to unlearn. I'd never hit my children.

@blackcoffee Spanking is not a response to frustration, and "violence" is absolutely an appropriate response to someone doing something actually wrong.

@lukedashjr Just ask yourself: what would happen to a parent who 'spanked' another adult? Violence against children is wrong. If an adult can't negotiate with a child they're not capable of parenting.

@SiFi It's not comparable. A better analogy would be if the State spanked a criminal. Which is fine, and used to be common.

Also, young children haven't developed the use of reason yet, and, like animals, can only understand simple, direct cause->effect relationships.

@lukedashjr It's perfectly comparable. I know a lot of adults who haven't developed the use of reason yet. It's a parent's job to teach such values, not to inflict pain and suffering.

@lukedashjr

Depends on if someone's property rights has been violated and if victim want to persuade the punishment. Also punishment should be proportional to the crime.

If the child voices that their property right to their scare resource (body) was violated, the child may demand the compensation and/or punishment for the perpetrator (both proportional to the crime).

There clearly shouldn't be any jail or kidnappings of the child imposed by external authority.

@lukedashjr Spanking is cowardly, however should not be punished by jail or removal of children. The cowards should be spanked. How can violence against someone who is defenceless ever be justified? I am an anarchist, not leftist.

@lukedashjr Not the msm version of anarchy. Left is all about bullying via the force of rulers. Anarchy is about no rulers. No one legitimately has authority over another.

@lukedashjr @richard

Wrong.

Anarchy is not left nor right. Anarchy is the state (of individual or society) where no one is ruled by some other human. Anarchy is from greek /anarchos/ meaning literally "without ruler".

And that is anarchy. Nothing more. There is no politics in that term. No left or right (and btw, "left/right" is pretty shitty way how to do taxonomy on political views).

@cddze77in @richard "Without ruler" is indeed a leftist ideal.

The correct order of human civilization is hierarchical. Every man subject to another.

@lukedashjr

There are plenty of hierarchies that don’t involve “ruler”s.

@cddze77in @richard

@lukedashjr @richard

Hierarchy is not limited just to the coercive relationships (aka rule).

Hierarchy is just some topology of relationships an may (and often is) voluntary.

Hierarchy in corporation is an example of such topology.

@lukedashjr @richard

Whats is leftist or rightist is such diluted, emptied and fuzzy term, that for me has no meaning.

Often, when ppl say "leftist" means socialist, but sometime also progressive. But both are values on a different scale of things.

This leads to total mess and confusion. I suggest to completely avoid the left/right labels. They are misleading.

@cddze77in @lukedashjr @richard FWIW, I think anarchism is generally considered a leftist, meaning progressive.

Luke's comment on hierarchy is obviously bullshit.

But anarchism is not so much explicitly against hierarchy, it's more about illegitimate authority. The thing is that illegitimate authority usually manifests itself in the form of (illegitimate) hierarchies.

Hierarchies in today's corporations are almost always illegitimate as well, so they need to be enforced by the judiciary.
