How can I follow a user on another instance, if their instance's web interface doesn't have a follow button? :/
@TallTim He said he's pretty much outsourced everything related to bitcoinhackers at this point (incl hosting & maintenance)
Did you try putting in their name in your search box? It maybe comes up with a follow button next to the results.
Yeah, I got nothing for that account either.
If I just do a gab.com search, several accounts from there come up to can be added.
@verretor @lukedashjr @alanturing @JTR21 I'm not sure you really want 0% censorship. If someone were to start promoting shitcoin scams on bitcoinhackers.org, posting every minute of the day, would you not moderate that?
There are plenty of instances that don't censor much, and with Mastodon you can also migrate your account between instances without losing your social graph, in case you're unhappy on the one you chose first.
Here's a list of some popular instances: https://joinmastodon.org/communities
Besides, their rules indicate they do in fact censor reasonable things too. ("homophobic speech will not be tolerated" plus a vague condemnation of "hate speech")
I'd understand that take if people were posting porn all the time. The right approach would be to block these accounts or potentially for them to add content warnings.
But even without that: seeing a dick or boobs (whatever doesn't float your boat) from time to time won't traumatize an otherwise mentally stable adult.
@lukedashjr @alanturing @verretor I think that's the wrong question. The question is what your community finds reasonable in regards to you encroaching on others' freedoms, like their right to choose sexual partners. If you are not tolerant of their sexuality, then why should they be tolerant of your opinion on it?
@sebx2a @lukedashjr @raucao @alanturing @verretor That's what the left wing Big Tech censorship brigade morons don't get. Setting the precedent for what is acceptable for whenever a right wing, extreme right wing leader gets into power again. This strategy only works if you establish a one party state (which it seems they are trying to do)
@PunaneMarker @lukedashjr @raucao @alanturing @verretor It might not always be unstable if the cost of suppression rises significantly, e.g. because defensive weapons hugely outperform offensive ones in cost/effectiveness.
I'm dreaming of a future where even small communities have the means to resist larger powers because it's too costly to breach their perimeters. I think this option alone will make people realize it's better to cooperate than dominating each other.
@sebx2a @PunaneMarker @lukedashjr @raucao @alanturing @verretor I think we are already here, the defensive tech just isn’t widely spread yet. Why invade a country or city state or even home if you can’t easily steal my stored wealth. Sure you can harass and threaten and even kill me, but if I can deny you my wealth because of my superior defense the rules of the game have changed...
